Hi!!! My name is Emily. I am a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, Christian, animal lover, and outdoor enthusiast. I began my nursing career after graduating from a diploma RN program in 2001. For 5 years, I worked in an admission nursery and NICU attending deliveries and performing immediate, post birth, newborn stabilization. After the unmedicated birth of my second child, I shifted my nursing focus to labor and delivery, in order to empower women during their birth experience.
After 6 years at the bedside, I realized the care I wanted to give my patient’s needed to start long before the delivery room. I wanted to educate women on their birth options and health choices across their lifespan. I returned to school and obtained my BSN in 2013 in order to prepare for pursuing my dream of becoming a nurse midwife.
I returned to school in 2014 at the Midwifery Program at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. I will graduate this May, 2017, but technically finish hours through the entire summer. I’ll be done officially in August!!!
This program led me to the Allen Birthing Center. I am so grateful to be here learning from these amazing midwives and birth assistants. I am looking forward to providing care for their patients while I develop my midwifery skills following these experts in the midwifery model of care. Thank you to the patients for trusting me while I complete this journey beside you as part of your care team.
My family is supportive of my dream of becoming a midwife. We enjoy boating, fishing, camping, playing board games, spending time on our back patio as a family. My personal interests include camping, hiking, road cycling, crochet, and a good old game of spades with friends. Our blended family includes my husband’s two exuberant white boxers, while I brought a geriatric Labrador, a cat, and two crazy pre-pubescent girls!! The family all gets along, the kids keep growing taller, and we always have warm laps.
I had two hospital births; one epidural at 8cm and one unmedicated. I breastfed exclusively for 15 and 16 months respectively. I have experienced primary and secondary infertility, pregnancy loss, and I have a special needs kiddo so I am well rounded and open-minded. This will help me meet your needs while I’m here to learn.
I’m VERY EXCITED to be here!!!!!!!!!!!! ABC was my very first choice of birthing centers, so I am humbled and honored these women had faith in me to be the student worthy of the experience. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!!!
